When storing your vehicle for winter you need to remember to follow these steps:
- Store somewhere safe: locked and secure storage unit or your driveway,
- Cover van and tyres if you are able, this helps prevent UV damage and tyre degradation
- Drain the water system to prevent any water become stale, and if it freezes it will expand and split the tank/pipes/taps/fittings etc,
- Turn off all gas taps,
- Remove the leisure batteries, as cold will reduce their effective life. Store in your garage or workshop, Regularly charge the leisure batteries, whether they remain in or out of the vehicle. This is important for maximising their life.
- Re-caulk any cracks or holes in windows and walls,
- Periodically check your motorhome if in locked storage unit,
- Keep vent and fridge covers in right area to prevent water ingress, insects and snow getting in,
- Empty all cupboards of medicine and storage areas of food and liquids.
- Vacuum thoroughly, mop the floors, and wipe down all surfaces. Not only does this provide you with a fresh start to next year’s camping season, but it also deters mice and insects from taking up residence,
- Give your fridge a good scrub, inside and out. Dry the interior thoroughly and prop open the door to prevent mold growth during the winter.
- Schedule any maintenance that your vehicle needs for over the winter. That way you are ready to go in the Spring.
- Remove all bedding and wash ready for the new season
