Plan your Caravan & Motorhome Trips Now: Winter Prep and 2025 Trailer Registration updates

Are you ready for spring adventures?

With the off-season in full swing, many caravan and motorhome owners use the winter months to plan their next trips, from scouting campsites to checking gear and organising routes. Booking early increases the chances of securing popular coastal or countryside spots, which often fill up quickly for spring and summer. Winter is also the perfect time for maintenance, including tyres, brakes, towbar, and lighting, to ensure your rig is road‑worthy. Planning ahead gives you time to buy or upgrade essential gear like towing accessories, security locks, and levelling ramps — especially important for those towing a caravan or trailer.

New Caravan Registration Laws – 2025

As of 2025, any trailer or caravan with a gross weight over 750 kg now requires registration for travel in the EU. Travellers must have a separate trailer registration plate and certificate, which may be checked at borders. The registration process, completed through the DVLA, costs around £26 and should be done before your trip. Failing to register your trailer can result in fines or even denied entry when crossing into European countries.
